Iron Man has been turned into an entire series at Playtech, the developer starting with the first movie, and eventually reaching the third one with its slot machines. The graphics are still comic book style in these games and you get all the cool Iron Man costumes among the symbols, as well as all sorts of other goodies. Iron Man, the first slot from the series, gets 25 lines and 5x3 reels. You can apparently get paid up to $50,000 just through the fixed payouts, the progressive jackpots having even a better potential than that. Stacked wilds which can be turned into expanding ones, plus bonus games and scatter symbols, are among the great features which Iron Man slot has to offer.
The slot delivers 25 lines, but you are free to reduce the number to just 1 line if you want to, or anywhere in between. You also have two other picks to make, one of them concerning the value of your coins, which can be between $0.01 and $1. The other choice will let you decide on the number of coins used per active line, the maximum being 10. You may wager up to $10 per line, with the minimum at $0.01. The slot’s largest bet will reach $250.
The game is based on the first Iron Man movie, which came out in 2008. The slot itself was released in 2009, and it took full advantage of the popularity of the film. Two other games have been released by Playtech since then, one for each Iron Man film that came out. The story is that of an engineer and billionaire, called Tony Stark. When taken captive, he creates an Iron Man costume, a suit of armor capable of flight and armed. He’s basically a superhero without real superpowers, using technology instead. We do get a game that’s based on the film, but not with photos from it. Instead, we’re looking at a cartoon/comic book style design. We have the Iron Man costume in different positions, plus we also get images of a Tony Star that actually resembles the actor that plays the character in the movies. Missiles, suitcases and other related and unrelated symbols are present as well. I’ve enjoyed the graphics of Iron Man for the most part, even now, after more than 8 years since the slot came out on the market. You don’t get much of a background, it’s just an abstract image with red and black in it, but the symbols are generally of very good quality.
Two very special wild symbols are going to show up at times on the reels, and will try to assist you in some way. The symbols don’t start out as wilds, and instead they’re just regular symbols which come in stacked and which can pay very well when they form combinations. The two symbols that show you the Iron Man costume can be used in this way. They can form combinations just with their own matching symbols, or you can get mixed payments by combining the two on a line. If you land one of these two stacked symbols on a reel, and you cover it completely, then you will see them transform into expanding wilds, gaining the capability to substitute for others and to be of a lot more help. This can only happen on the middle three reels, the ones where these symbols are stacked. Most of the time, when you’re not getting expanding wilds from the stacked regulars, you’re going to have only one feature symbol in the game. It will be a scatter which has the Iron Man logo visible on it, and which will appear on all reels.
As usual, for scatters it’s not as important where you get them, just that you have two or more to get paid, or three or more to get the bonus feature. Payouts start at 1x total bet, and go up to 100x total bet. The Missile Attack Bonus is triggered by the presence of three or more Iron Man logos in view on the reels. You have a bonus game, where you’re Iron Man and you have to shoot down incoming missiles. You get free spins, multipliers or direct cash prizes. Once you got both multipliers and free spins, the feature will end and you will start spinning the reels for free. You may retrigger free spins, with another 10 rounds, if you get 3+ Iron Man logos on the reels at this point.
One obvious prize to aspire to is the one offered by Marvel, through its progressive jackpot. It’s offered at random, has four possible values and they range from a few hundred dollars to hundreds of thousands. You get a better chance at getting the slot’s top jackpot, of 5,000x, than landing that progressive though, so let’s focus on this one. It’s got a maximum value of $50,000 and there are two symbols which can form a combination that will pay this much. Iron Man is a cool game, but its average RTP is at 94.89%, so it’s not a top choice in this particular area.
Iron Man was a good first release in the series, and it’s an excellent slot machine to play if you’re a fan of Tony Stark. Even though it is an oldie by now, it’s still a good looking game.
